It's been an exciting few weeks on the heritage project!
On Saturday 28th October, we hosted our second Heritage open day. Activities included our new church tours with Chris Gidlow, a variety of vestments and objects from the church collection were on display including some of the beautifully embroidered banners, sewing activities with Liz Betts, organ recitals, bellringing and vesting the priest! Around 90 people attended the day, despite the rain, and we received really positive feedback about the warm Christ Church welcome.
We are about to start capturing oral histories, recording the memories of people who have been involved with the church for a long time. These will provide an important record as part of the church archive.
We've also started the embroidery project to a really great response! We have over 35 people creating individual tiles so far, and successful workshops have taken place at Hastings Museum and Art Gallery, Christ Church, Zoom Arts and Hollington Library so far. We've seen stitchers creating tiles from scratch using a variety of embroidery techniques, as well as sewing onto printed photographs of St Leonards. We are discovering more about the history of the local area and can't wait to see the finished piece.
Our upcoming sewing dates are:
10:00-15:00 on Wednesday 8th November - Art in the Park
10:00-13:00 on Saturday 11th November - Hollington Library
19:00-21:00 on Tuesday 12 th December – Christ Church
19:00-21:00 on Tuesday 9th January – Christ Church
19:00-21:00 on Tuesday 6th February – Christ Church
